Healthcare Education
to Address Racialised Inequities
Welcome to the Healthcare Education to Address Racialised Inequities (HEARI) resource.
This resource has been developed to showcase examples of education initiatives that have been implemented with the broad aim to help healthcare practitioners and learners be more aware of and understand racialised and systemic inequities and develop strategies to address them in their healthcare practice.
This resource represents examples identified from the literature but also from unpublished work sourced from UK healthcare education providers.
There are examples from across the globe that represent a range of healthcare professions.
It is important to note that the resource is not extensive, and we have not been able to include all the work that is published.
We have prioritised showcasing those examples that:
Illustrate a variety of education interventions that have been implemented
Have evaluated their interventions to demonstrate outcomes for learners and where possible services or communities
We hope the resource is useful for a range of audiences. We encourage healthcare educators and policymakers to develop ideas for initiatives in their own curriculum and workplaces.
We encourage learners to reflect on the global context of racialised inequities, and to initiate conversations about local co-production.
We hope those from racialised communities are encouraged and reassured that important work is taking place, and will continue to grow.
